Overview
To support a hybrid learning model, the University of Jaffna needed a robust, high-density wireless network spanning 15 academic and residential buildings. Our MillenniumIT ESP team delivered a turnkey solution—from site survey through post-deployment support.
The Challenge
With just 30 aging access points, students and faculty struggled to connect during peak hours. Video lectures jittered, research downloads stalled, and guest speakers reported disastrous drop-outs. The university’s Single Sign-On (SSO) system also lacked integration with Wi-Fi authentication, forcing manual account management.
Our Approach
Site Survey & Heat-Mapping
Conducted walking surveys at three times of day
Generated RF-coverage maps to identify dead zones
Access Point Deployment
Installed 120 dual-band, enterprise-grade APs with seamless roaming
Mounted APs in lecture halls, libraries, hostels, and outdoor quad
Secure Authentication
Integrated Wi-Fi login with the university’s SSO for two-factor authentication
Issued digital certificates to 6,000 user accounts
Implementation Highlights
Phased roll-out to minimize classroom disruption
Configuration of band-steering and load-balancing rules
On-site training for the IT helpdesk on troubleshooting and firmware upgrades
Results
85% boost in user-satisfaction survey scores
Network supported up to 5,000 simultaneous devices without performance dips
Enabled livestreaming of high-definition lectures and virtual labs
“The new Wi-Fi has revolutionized our campus life—students can collaborate anywhere, and faculty finally deliver digital content seamlessly.”
